Ian: Yikes. We don't like it when renters feel ripped off and sadly, it happens too often given the confusing maze of fine print. Thanks for letting us know about this detail - we will be updating all blurbs on ECCR to ensure renters are aware of this significant exclusion so they can make an informed decision.

It is not uncommon for Single Vehicle Accidents to be treated differently e.g. instead of a standard liability of $3,300, Hertz charges up to $5,500 for SVAs (again, hidden in the fine print!). But no coverage AT ALL as from ECCR can definitely hit anyone as a nasty surprise. They do declare this in their <a href="http://www.eastcoastcarrentals.com.au/FAQ.htm#Q92" rel="nofollow">FAQ</a> but amongst all the information, it's understandable this detail gets lost. In fact, I've come across a few other independents that have a similar exclusion and they are even less obvious about it in their terms.

It's always a struggle for renters to ensure all our bases are covered and it's never fun to be held ransom at the counter. For future reference, this <a href="http://www.carhireinsider.com.au/car-hire-questions-to-ask/" rel="nofollow">car hire checklist</a> may help you avoid another bad experience. Here's hoping we can help level the playing field. Thanks again for sharing your story and may the car rental force be with you in the future!

East Coast Rentals low rates are a scam.

I signed up on the Net because of the price. Their "courtesy shuttle" took forever to get to the airport and a bit longer to get to the office. I had decided to go for the $3000 excess cover which seemed pretty standard.

Then I had it explained to me that for a single car accident there was no cover at all and only the $21/day extra would fix this.

Any form of accident where they can't find the other party is a single car accident. So if the car got trashed in a parking lot etc etc I'm up for a new car. I sighed and paid. My $200 one week bargain became a far-from-flash $350 for a 2-door manual Getz.

I won't be doing business with them again. I haven't seen this bit of fine print anywhere else ever and I've been renting cars for a while.
