Your toll system is a nighmare for visitors to your part of the world. We got a hire-car in Adelaide and drove up. Nice drive until the Brisbane toll terrorists hit. Like Sydney and its cashless buses (effectively preventing visitors there from using them) having cashless tolls is a nightmare. We enjoyed the vist very much but the Brisbane tolls caused the most headaches.

Second trip to Qld. Afetr the first contacted NRMA to suggest that hire car companies fit Etag holders to their windscreens for those of us from interstate who have etags. Not a big ask. Whhn I phoned the NSW RTA to enquire on the first trip about taking our etag and holding it up or placing it prominently on the windscreen of the hire car, I was cautioned that if it didn't read properly- as in it didn't beep to register payment, both the hire car and the toll authority in Qld would charge a service fee.

Gotta be a better way- national system- unique randomly generated hire car pin system instead ofhire car reg given out to inform etag operator of- current for a certain period - takes away the freebie element for next user if we forget to advise Etag of end of hire. Not a small industry- so worth a look at improvements.

Hate to be visiting Qld as an interstate or international traveller for first time- signposting is non existing or attrocious- street signs above trees etc in some places. Love Qld but if you love visitors a little bit of attention to detail appreciated.

Just got a notice from a hire car company with a massive admin fee to pay telling me to expect an infringement notice for not paying a toll which I'm sure will also have a massive admin fee attached. Don't remember seeing any signs to say I ever went on a toll road. What a crock! So greedy.

Hello, recently I drove from NSW to near Bundaburg. and back, bypassing the Brisbane CBD via what appeared to be State owned roads, passing near the airport. I did not see any indication that I was on a toll road, unlike the Sydney ones which are clearly marked as one approaches and then enters them. Also unlike the Sydney toll roads there were no phone numbers displayed to then pay for such usage of these roads.

How is a stranger to know if one is on a toll road unless its marked as such ?

I have now received a notice with a massive Administration fee for not paying the tiny amount for the journey. Fair Go Mate, Queensland is sopposed to be a nice place to visit. . Michael Elliott

Robert: Well, you'll only need to register with Go Via when using QLD motorways. However, you'll still need to memorize different motorways to pay for them! :S

why are your toll companies seperate ; if you leave your details with one firm the other has no access to your details for payment. A visitor to the state travelling through has no idea which toll company to pay for which trip without memorising the diferent motorways?

Rod: Yup, sadly the whole toll system is still pretty confusing to travellers. More often than not, people tend to unintentionally end up on a toll road! go via is the company that manages Brisbane's toll payments. Use this link to purchase a casual pass for the road you used. Be aware you need to pay for it within 3 days of travel. Otherwise, try calling go via on 1 3000 46 842 (within country) or +61 73323 0001 (outside Australia).
